Six charged in Smiths Falls police investigations including impaired driving and animal cruelty

Breach investigation results in arrest

On June 29th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police Service received information of a possible breach of court ordered conditions in relation to the keeping of animals. Members of Smiths Falls Police commenced an investigation into this matter. On July 22nd, 2025 the male suspect was arrested without incident.

As a result of the investigation, 31 year old Neil TROUSDALE has been charged with breach of order prohibiting keeping of animals (x1). The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date.

Arrest made after foot pursuit

On July 23rd, 2025 Smiths Falls Police members initiated a traffic stop while on proactive patrol. During the traffic stop investigation, the passenger fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, officers were able to arrest the passenger without further incident.

As a result of the investigation, 58 year old Guy COTE has been charged with possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (x1) and obstruct peace officer (x1). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Intimate Partner Violence investigation leads to impaired driving charges

On July 23rd, 2025 Smiths Falls Police received information of an intimate partner dispute in progress. Upon arrival, members of the Smiths Falls Police began their investigation.

As a result of the investigation, a 33 year old male from Smiths Falls stands charged with operation while impaired (x1), operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg (x1) and driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor (x1). The accused was later released on conditions and a scheduled court appearance.

Hit and run investigation leads to impaired charges

On July 24th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police Service received information of a SUV colliding with a parked car and subsequently fleeing the scene. Members of the Smiths Falls Police responded to the area to commence the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, 29 year old Christopher FLING of Smiths Falls stands charged with operation while impaired (x1), operation impaired -blood alcohol content over 80mg (x1), failure to stop after accident (x1), take motor vehicle without consent (x1), and failing to comply with their probation order (x1). The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court appearance.

Youth arrested on outstanding warrant

On July 27th, 2025 a member of Smiths Falls Police was on a proactive patrol and observed a youth known to be wanted on a warrant. The youth was arrested at the scene without incident.

As a result of the investigation, a 15 year old female was arrested for failing to attend court on previous charges. The accused was additionally charged with failing to comply with their release order (x1). The accused was held in custody for a pending bail court hearing.

Animal cruelty charges laid in neglect investigation

On July 30th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police received information of ongoing animal neglect. Members of the Smiths Falls Police Service and Animal Welfare Services commenced an investigation into the matter.

As a result of the investigation, 33 year old Jacob PATRY of Smiths Falls stands charged with cruelty to animals (x1). The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court appearance. The animal was taken into the care of Smiths Falls By-Law Services.

The charges in these matters have not been proven in court.
