Smith Drive residents concerned for children at play

During Tuesday night’s Committee of the Whole meeting, council received a request from residents of Smith Drive for traffic analysis and possible speed humps. Local residents are concerned about the speed of drivers going along Smith Drive, and the fact that vehicles regularly drive on the wrong side of the road’s boulevard strip. The grassy median which divides the road seems to confuse many drivers. Smith Drive passes through Conlon Farm Recreation Complex with its skate park, tennis courts, splash pad, and soccer fields. This location is a hot spot for children running and playing; residents are particularly concerned for the safety of children along this road.

Councillor Cameron suggested that installing a radar speed sign might help, and Councillor Bird asked if this area should qualify as a community safety zone.

Town staff will continue to monitor and investigate.
