Smiths Falls busy with Covid-safe activities

Directors Kerry Costello and Art Manhire shared some updates with town council during Monday night’s virtual Committee of the Whole meeting.

There is currently a vacancy on the Smiths Falls Public Library board, and they will be receiving applications from any who wish to apply to join the Board. The Library Board meets virtually, not in person, at this time.

Heritage Week was postponed last week due to the Covid-19 second-wave lockdown, however, be on the lookout for news of Heritage Scavenger Hunt in the month of March. Participants will explore Smiths Falls and follow clues to heritage buildings. This will be a Covid-compliant event, taking place out of doors, face masks and social distancing will be practiced. Anyone who is interested in participating in this event should contact Nadine Bennett at nbennett@smithsfalls.ca or 613-283-4124.

Director Manhire announced that this is likely the last week skaters will be able to enjoy the outdoor rink this season. “The outdoor rink is bearing the brunt of our warmer weather; we’re trying to keep it open but we anticipate that sometime this week we may have to shut that down due to warmer weather,” he said. Many skaters took advantage of the outdoor rink with its 25-person occupancy limit during the past month.

Temperatures are predicted to remain above zero in Smiths Falls for five of the next seven days.
