Smiths Falls provides information on proof of vaccination protocols for the Memorial Community Centre and updates on fall events

The Town of Smiths Falls is providing information to citizens on proof of vaccination to access the Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre and updates on guidelines for outdoor community events this fall and winter.

Effective Sept. 22, 2021, the province of Ontario announced that proof of vaccination is required in indoor community spaces, as well as restaurants, music venues, and other indoor gathering locations. Accordingly, as of that date, access to the Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre has been restricted to those with proof of vaccination.

Further, effective Nov. 1 2021, the Town of Smiths Falls will require patrons of the community centre to provide proof of vaccination through a QR code. QR verification will be the only option accepted at the Community Centre in order to gain entrance. This requirement will apply to any venue that requires proof of vaccination.

The provincial government has recently released the Verify Ontario vaccine certificate app with official QR code for download. Citizens are able to download the app and then save the electronic version of the vaccine certificate with a QR code to their phone or print a paper copy. A separate piece of identification showing name and date of birth will also be required along with their proof of vaccination QR code.

To access the app please visit Ontario’s Vaccine Portal at: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/covid-19-vaccine-booking-support#proof-of-vaccination.

As the province lifts remaining restrictions for businesses and public spaces, the Town of Smiths Falls’ Emergency Control Group supports the following events taking place this fall: Halloween, Remembrance Day ceremonies, and the Santa Claus Parade.

These events have been flagged as low risk by the Leeds Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit. Events must continue to comply with provincial public health regulations and event planning may need to be altered to respond to changes in provincial or regional health and safety guidelines.

As a reminder, while municipal services at the municipal complex have resumed in Smiths Falls, virtual meetings or telephone meetings continue to be encouraged.

Residents are encouraged to continue to use online payments when possible. Residents can register for e-Bill payment through the Town of Smiths Falls website, www.smithsfalls.ca; online payments can be made via credit card, PayPal, or through online financial institutions.
