Smiths Falls Police address crash, bar incident and youth assault in series of responses

No injuries after collision with hydro pole. Driver facing charges.

On April 19th, 2025 at approximately 7:42 a.m. the Smiths Falls Police Service received multiple calls regarding a single motor vehicle that just collided with a hydro pole. Smiths Falls Police members responded to the scene along with Smiths Falls Fire, Lanark County Paramedics and Hydro One. The road way was closed down for public safety and the vehicle occupants were assessed for injuries as a precaution.

As a result of the collision investigation the 26 year old driver, Griffen ALLEN of Rideau Lakes received a 3 day driving suspension after registering an alert with their breath sample. Additionally the driver was charged under the highway traffic act for careless driving (x 1) and operating a motor vehicle on a highway with no insurance (x 1). The accused was released on a provincial summons and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Disturbance in residence results in arrest

On April 19th, 2025 the Smiths Falls Police Service responded to a report of a disturbance inside a residential dwelling. Members of the Smiths Falls Police arrived on scene promptly to begin their investigation.

As a result of the investigation a 24 year old male from Smiths Falls was arrested and charged with mischief over $5000. The accused was held in custody pending a bail court hearing.

On April 23rd 2025 members of the Smiths Falls Police responded to the same dwelling after receiving information that the accused has returned to the location and is in breach of their court ordered bail conditions. Smiths Falls Police members responded to the location to begin another investigation.

As a result of the second investigation the accused was further charged with failing to comply with their bail release order (x 2). The accused was held in custody pending another bail court hearing.

Impaired driver arrested after leaving local bar

On April 20th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police Service received information of a possibly impaired driver leaving a local bar. Members of the Smiths Falls Police responded to the area and located the vehicle pulling driving away from the establishment. A vehicle traffic stop was initiated and the investigation commenced.

As a result of the traffic investigation, 80 year old Lee HITCH I NS of Perth stands charged with operation while impaired (x 1) and operation with impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80mg (x 1). The accused was later released with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Three youths arrested after bus stop attack

On April 3rd 2025, Smiths Falls Police received reports of a large disturbance that just occurred at a school bus stop. Members of the Smiths Falls Police responded to the area to begin their investigation. The suspects involved in the attack were identified with the assistance of video footage.

As a result of the investigation a 14 year old male of Smiths Falls stands charged with assault (x 2). A 14 year old female of Smiths Falls is charged with assault (x 1) and a second 14 year old female of Smiths Falls is charged with assault (x 2). The three accused youths were later released to their parents with conditions and will appear in court at a later date.

The charges in these matters have not been proven in court.
