Smiths Falls provides clarification on proof of vaccination required at community centre

The Town of Smiths Falls is providing clarification on what proof of vaccination will be accepted at the Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre to gain entry.

Effective Sept. 22, 2021, the province of Ontario announced that proof of vaccination is required in indoor community spaces, as well as restaurants, music venues, and other indoor gathering locations. Accordingly, as of that date, access to the Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre has been restricted to those with proof of vaccination.

On Oct. 26, 2021 the Town of Smiths Falls issued a media release indicating that a QR code proof of vaccination will be the only proof of vaccination accepted at the community centre. This was intended to streamline entrance procedures and ensure wait times are kept at a minimum for users of the facility.

The Town of Smiths Falls recognizes some citizens may be having issues obtaining their QR code for proof of vaccination. As such, the Town of Smiths Falls will continue to accept alternate proof of vaccination (documentation received at the time of vaccination) in addition to the QR code.

Patrons are encouraged to obtain their QR code by visiting the Ontario Vaccine Portal at https://covid-19.ontario.ca/covid-19-vaccine-booking-support#proof-of-vaccination.

Citizens are able to download the app and then save the electronic version of the vaccine certificate with a QR code to their phone or print a paper copy. A separate piece of identification showing name and date of birth will also be required along with their proof of vaccination QR code. Citizens may print their codes at no cost at the Smiths Falls Public Library or the Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre.

The Town will continue to monitor ongoing changes to provincial legislation and provide updates to these policies as required.
