Traffic stop and unwanted person lead to arrests in Smiths Falls

Wanted male arrested after traffic stop

On March 5th 2025, Smiths Falls Police Services initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle after it failed to stop at a stop sign. The traffic investigation revealed that the vehicle passenger was wanted by two neighboring Police Services and currently breaching their court ordered sentencing conditions.

As a result of the investigation, 39 year old Jeremiah POYNTER of Lombardy, was arrested at the scene. The accused stands charged with obstructing police officer (x 1) and failing to comply with their probation order (x 6}. The accused was held in custody, pending a bail hearing.

Unwanted person charged for resisting arrest

On March 6th 2025, at approximately 4:30 a.m. the Smiths Falls Police Service were called to a residence due to a report of an unwanted person outside their dwelling.

Upon officers arrival, the suspect showed obvious signs of impairments and was uncooperative with police. As a result the subject was arrested at scene. A 31 year old female stands charged with resisting peace officer (x 1), failing to comply with their probation order (x 1) and was also issued a provincial offence ticket for being intoxicated in a public place. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Wanted male surrenders to police

On March 6th 2025, the Smiths Falls Police arrested a male who was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

41 year old Jeffrey PETERS of Smiths Falls turned himself into police. The accused was outstanding on a warrant relating to breaching his probation order (x 2). The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
