Director of Public Works and Utilities Troy Dunlop “tough to replace”

Smiths Falls Town Council wished Director of Public Works and Utilities Troy Dunlop all the best in his new venture during Monday night’s Committee of the Whole meeting. Dunlop is moving on to a position with the County of Frontenac after 5 years in his current position with the town of Smiths Falls.

Town CAO Malcolm Morris noted that Dunlop had a “profound impact on the town of Smiths Falls. He set the bar for service & sustainability reviews.” Dunlop established operational efficiencies that led to significant capital savings, including the LED light conversion program which saves the town over $100 000 annually.  Dunlop brought millions of dollars in funding to the town: for the Beckwith Street redevelopment alone, he brought in $4 million.

CAO Morris highlighted Dunlop’s positive impact on the town with his skillful management of the Beckwith St redevelopment, “a huge job with many moving parts and lots of aging infrastructure. He did it during the pandemic, under budget and on schedule. That epitomizes how Troy rolls, and he will be missed.”

Director Dunlop said he is astonished by how much the town and his department has changed since he first took this position 5 years ago. “It’s a very different scene than when I arrived in 2016. This department has worked very hard in transforming how we do things. It’s been a pleasure working with the calibre of staff we have here, and I’m going to miss each and every one of you.  I want to thank you all.”

Councillor Brennan thanked Dunlop for being so willing to connect with the public in his busy role. “You’re going to be tough to replace. Thank you.”

Both Director of Public Works and Utilities Troy Dunlop and Manager of Economic Development and Tourism Jennifer Miller will leave their positions in Smiths Falls at the end of this week.
