On Tuesday, February 25th, 2020, Dave Young, Director of Public Works for the Town of Carleton Place, was recognized for his 35 years of service in the municipal sector with a Long Service Award at the Ontario Good Roads Association Conference held in Toronto.

Dave started his career in 1985 at J.A. Knowles & Associates as an Engineering Technician. He moved to Totten Sims Hubicki Engineering Consultants in 1990 as an Engineering Technologist before commencing his employment with the Town of Carleton Place in 1991 as a Public Works Coordinator. He moved into the role of Director of Public Works in 2005.

Throughout his years of his service with the Town, his responsibilities have included maintaining a robust infrastructure and guiding a number of expansion-related projects. Some recent projects include a multi-million-dollar sanitary lift station and several kilometers of dual forcemains which have facilitated the ongoing development of 2,500 new homes in Carleton Place. Dave is planning on remaining involved in the replacement of the Central Bridge and the redevelopment of the Central Business District, two of the largest projects the Town has undertaken in recent years.

Mayor Doug Black, Councillors Toby Randell and Andrew Tennant and Chief Administrative Officer Diane Smithson were in attendance at the awards presentation. Mayor Black noted, “We have accomplished so much in the past 29 years under Dave’s leadership. The Town’s infrastructure is in great shape for the next Director of Public Works to assume.” The CAO added to the Mayor’s comments by noting “Congratulations to Dave on his well-deserved 35-year service recognition from the Ontario Good Roads Association! It is truly fitting he is being recognized for his work during his distinguished career.”
