Town of Carleton Place receives funding under phase 2 of provincial safe restart program

The Corporation of the Town of Carleton Place learned today (Dec 16) that it will receive an additional $371,000 from the Province of Ontario under Phase 2 of the Safe Restart Program for 2020. The Town will also receive an additional $57,000 for 2021. The program provides the supports needed to respond to COVID-19 impacts and address operating pressures which for the Town resulted from additional operating costs and loss of program revenues. The Ontario government is allocating the funding to provide financial relief for municipalities to help ensure they do not carry operating deficits into 2021 and it will assist the Town to deliver critical services during COVID-19.

Carleton Place was 1 of only 48 municipalities out of 444 who received this extra funding. The Town was previously allocated $284,900 under Phase 1 of the Safe Restart Program – Municipal Operating Funding stream.

Under the federal-provincial Safe Restart Agreement, the Ontario government is providing up to $4 billion in emergency assistance so that municipalities are supported as they respond to COVID-19 to ensure they continue to deliver the important services residents and businesses rely on while supporting the safe reopening of the economy.
