Director of Public Works and Utilities Paul McMunn shared updates with town council during the Committee of the Whole meeting in Smiths Falls on Tuesday night.

Currently, work is underway for a new sidewalk being installed along one side of Old Slys Road, between the swing bridge and Lower Reach Park.

The new pedestrian crossover on Jasper Avenue has already been installed, but it is not yet uncovered; “we are just waiting for additional signs before it is unbagged,” McMunn explained.

Along Catherine and Oak streets, underground works and service works are progressing well, McMunn said, noting that most of the curb has been completed along Catherine from Oak Street up to Davidson Avenue, and it will soon be progressing up to Broadview.

“Within a week or so, the underground [work] will be completed. Look forward to some quick progression on this project,” McMunn added, “The second week of November is the goal for completion of that project.”

Drivers on Catherine Street can expect to see a base coat of asphalt this fall, and the top layer of asphalt will be added in the spring.
