ALMONTE — The Smiths Falls Police Service has announced the conviction of Rachelle Primeau of Almonte on charges of fraud over $5,000 and uttering a forged document following proceedings in the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth in April 2026.

According to police, the investigation began after staff with the Ontario Disability Support Program raised concerns about irregularities in financial support claims. Program Integrity Analysts with the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services conducted a review and identified discrepancies that were referred to the Smiths Falls Police Service Criminal Investigations Division.

Investigators alleged Primeau falsely claimed to have a medical condition to receive additional benefits through the Ontario Disability Support Program.

Police said approximately $214,726.97 in public funding was improperly obtained as a result.

Primeau was convicted of fraud over $5,000 and uttering a forged document and is scheduled to return to court at a later date for sentencing.

Police said the case highlights the working relationship between the Criminal Investigations Division and Program Integrity Analysts with the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services in identifying and investigating the misuse of public funds.

Anyone with information related to this case or similar incidents is asked to contact the Smiths Falls Police Service at 613-283-0357 or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
