Shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025 the Mississippi Mills Fire Department (MMFD) responded to a house fire at 2557 County Road 29 in Pakenham.

Approximately 30 firefighters from the MMFD responded to the call, which was quickly contained to the basement and kitchen areas of the home.

“No one was home at the time of the fire and while the house sustained significant damage due to fire and smoke, there were no injuries to the public or first responders,” said MMFD Deputy Fire Chief Justin Hemsley.

Mutual aid assistance was provided from neighbouring Carleton Place Fire Department, Arnprior Fire Department, Beckwith Fire Department and Ottawa Fire Services. The Perth Fire Department was also dispatched to help cover the depleted area of Lanark County while firefighters worked on scene. A small detour was also set up to reroute traffic.

“Thank you to the MMFD for their quick and professional response to extinguish the fire and keep the public safe,” stated Mississippi Mills Mayor Christa Lowry. “I would also like to extend my appreciation to neighbouring fire departments for their support. Our dedicated volunteer firefighters are second to none and we are grateful for their selflessness in answering these calls during the community’s time of need.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
