Elgin driver charged after striking student near school

ELGIN — A 17-year-old student was struck by a vehicle in Elgin on Wednesday, Nov. 19, prompting charges under the Highway Traffic Act.

Shortly after 11 a.m., Leeds County OPP responded to reports of a pedestrian collision on Main Street. A vehicle had struck a student from a nearby school, then left the scene. The youth sustained minor injuries.

Officers later located the suspect vehicle in the area.

As a result, a 76-year-old Elgin resident has been charged with careless driving and failing to remain at the scene. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in Provincial Offences Court in Brockville at a later date.
