PERTH — Perth town council will soon consider proposed updates to its council remuneration and expenses policy that would adjust pay levels and allowances for the next term of council.
The committee of the whole has recommended that council pass an amending bylaw to update the town’s Council Remuneration and Spending Policy, with changes set to take effect Jan. 1, 2027, after the next council takes office.
Under the proposal, annual remuneration would continue to be indexed to the previous year’s consumer price index.
The proposed adjustment would bring the mayor’s remuneration to $37,404.72 from $36,315. The deputy mayor’s pay would increase to $24,378.15 from $23,668, while councillors would receive $20,260.36, up from $19,670.25.
Staff are also recommending several adjustments to council expense allowances to reflect rising costs and bring rates closer in line with neighbouring municipalities.
These include increasing each councillor’s annual expense account from $5,500 to $6,000, raising the daily meal allowance from $75 to $100, and increasing per diem rates to $200 for a full day and $100 for a half day.
Vision care and internet allowances would remain unchanged. The financial impacts of the changes would be addressed through the town’s 2027 budget process.
