Perth homicide investigation continues with police confirming no public risk
PERTH — A death at Last Duel Park over the weekend is now being investigated as a homicide, according to Ontario Provincial Police.
Lanark County OPP officers were called to the park around 3:15 p.m. on April 12, where a person was found with life-threatening injuries. The individual was taken to a trauma centre and later pronounced dead.
Police have since confirmed the death is considered suspicious and has now been ruled a homicide. Investigators say the incident appears to have been targeted and there is no indication of an ongoing risk to the public.
The identity of the deceased has been confirmed by police but is being withheld until next of kin have been notified.
The investigation prompted road closures and a heavy police presence in the area earlier this week, but those measures have since been lifted and the park has reopened.
The case is being led by the Lanark County OPP Crime Unit under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Branch, with support from the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, along with several specialized OPP units.
Police are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone with information to contact the Lanark County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
