Construction of the Linden Housing Co-operative at 79 Wilson St. W. is continuing on schedule, with occupancy expected to begin in January 2027.
The project has reached several construction milestones and is expected to remain on schedule, according to the co-operative. The building is expected to have its roof installed and be weather-tight by mid-August, allowing interior work to continue through the fall.
“The vision of creating an affordable, community-focused housing co-operative is becoming a reality,” Linden Housing Co-operative chair Steven Welchner said. “Every week there is tangible progress on the site, and we’re excited to welcome the first members early next year.”
Applications for membership remain open until July 31.
The co-operative will provide affordable, long-term housing where members participate in the life of the co-operative and work together to create a welcoming community.
The development will include:
- 39 affordable units, including studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.
- 10 rent-geared-to-income units allocated through Lanark County’s centralized waiting list.
- Eight wheelchair-accessible units.
- Indoor and outdoor common spaces.
“There’s a great deal of excitement surrounding the project,” Welchner said. “Linden is building a community where neighbours support one another and where residents can enjoy long-term housing stability.”
People interested in becoming members of the co-operative are encouraged to submit applications before the July 31 deadline. Applicants selected to move forward will be invited to an information session in August before the membership selection process continues.
