Perth to purchase new street sweeper

During Tuesday night’s Committee of the Whole meeting, it was decided that the town of Perth will welcome a brand new street sweeper later this year. Director of Environmental Services Grant Machan recommended council authorize the purchase of a 2022 Ravo 5i Street Sweeper, to replace the town’s aging 2006 Vacuum Sweeper.

Machan also requested approval for the purchase of an auxiliary “front-mounted broom on a swivel,” which will improve maneuverability. This front-mounted broom will be installed before the Ravo 5i is delivered to Perth.

Town staff had the chance to test-drive three street sweepers, and preferred the 2022 Ravo 5i overall. Deputy Mayor McPherson asked Machan if the new machine has the same capacity as the old one. “It’s more efficient,” replied Machan, “but the capacity is approximately the same. We’re very happy with it.”

Council supported this recommendation unanimously.

Delivery of the new street sweeper will occur six months after purchase.
