Three new honours planned for 2027 as Perth volunteer awards program expands

PERTH — The Town of Perth has brought volunteers from throughout the community together to celebrate their contributions. Held in recognition of National Volunteer Week, the annual Volunteer Appreciation Night welcomed representatives from local organizations, service clubs, and community groups for an afternoon of connection, recognition, and gratitude.

“Volunteers are the heart of our community,” said Mayor Judy Brown. “They are the people behind so many of the programs, events, and supports that make Perth such a vibrant and caring place to live. This event is a small way to recognize the tremendous impact they have every day.”

The event featured guest speaker Anthony Valenti from Volunteer Lanark, who spoke about the importance of supporting and strengthening volunteerism throughout the region.

2026 Perth Medal Nominations Now Open

As part of the celebration, the town officially launched nominations for the 2026 Perth Medal. The Perth Medal is awarded annually by the mayor to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the Perth community through volunteerism, fundraising, or community work, without seeking financial gain.

Residents can learn more and submit a nomination by completing the Perth Medal nomination form at Perth.ca/Awards. Nominations will be accepted until 11:55 p.m. on Sunday, May 31.

New Volunteer Awards Launching in 2027

The town also announced the expansion of its volunteer recognition program, with three new awards set to launch in 2027. There awards will recognize contributions across different stages of life and forms of community impact:

  • Community Builder Award: Recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions through leadership, mentorship, philanthropy, or other forms of civic impact beyond traditional volunteer roles.
  • Senior Volunteer Award: Celebrates individuals aged 55 and older who contribute to the community, with an emphasis on mentorship, knowledge-sharing, and community enrichment.
  • Youth Volunteer Award: Recognizes youth aged 12 to 22 who demonstrate leadership, initiative, and positive community impact through volunteerism and community involvement.

More details about the nomination processes and timelines will be shared in advance of the 2027 launch. With more than 120 organizations represented locally, volunteerism continues to play a vital role in shaping Perth’s identity. The town extends its sincere thanks to all volunteers for their continued dedication and service.
