Additional revenue of about $170,000 expected from increase to Perth water and sewer rates in 2026

PERTH — Perth residents will see higher water and sewer bills this year after town council approved a six per cent rate increase as part of the 2026 municipal budget.

A bylaw to enact the increase was approved at the March 10 committee of the whole meeting and the new rate will take effect in April 2026.

“It should have come forward in February, but was delayed and we won’t make it retroactive as that wouldn’t be fair,” Nev Jande, director of corporate services, told Hometown News.

According to the staff report, the increase is needed to help maintain the long-term financial sustainability of the town’s water and wastewater services and support infrastructure renewal, operations and regulatory requirements.

The rate adjustment is expected to generate about $170,000 in additional revenue in 2026. For the average residential customer, the change will add about $65.82 per year.
