Raise the Roof fundraiser featured a record-setting 60,000-pound CN caboose pull by local strongman Tim Norris
The Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario (RMEO) raised $8,274.49 during its Father’s Day “Raise the Roof” fundraiser to support restoration of the museum’s historic railway station roof.
Hundreds of people attended the June 21 event, which featured train rides, military vehicles, vintage cars, museum exhibits, family activities, food vendors and a silent auction. Proceeds will go toward preserving the museum’s century-old station building.
One of the event’s highlights was a strength demonstration by local athlete Tim Norris. The Canadian Grandmasters strongman competitor, bodybuilder and powerlifter pulled a 60,000-pound CN caboose 84 feet, setting what organizers say is a new world record for his age category.
“We were absolutely thrilled with the turnout and support from the community,” said Tony Humphrey, president of the RMEO’s board of directors. “Not only did we raise significant funds toward our roof restoration project, but visitors also witnessed an extraordinary achievement by Tim Norris. It was a wonderful day that brought people together in support of local heritage.”
“The station roof remains one of our most urgent restoration priorities,” said Becky Allen, executive director of the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario. “Raising more than $8,200 in a single day is a tremendous step forward. We are incredibly grateful to every visitor, volunteer, sponsor, silent auction donor and community partner who helped make this event such a success.”
The RMEO is housed in the former Canadian Northern Railway station, a designated heritage building that has served the community for more than a century. Ongoing restoration projects are aimed at preserving the station while keeping it accessible to visitors.
