Rideau Lakes announces 2025 Business Recognition Award winners

Rideau Lakes business awards see 50 nominations and honour 22 long-standing businesses

RIDEAU LAKES — The Rideau Lakes Economic Development Committee has announced the winners of the 2025 Business Recognition Awards, with 50 local businesses nominated for their contributions to the community.

Recess Café received the Rideau Lakes Business of the Year Award. The café in Portland has become a popular spot for locals and is considered a “hidden gem” for travellers between Kingston and Ottawa. Recess Café employs local residents and supports small businesses by sourcing local products.

Clearly Auto Glass received the Small Business Award. The company provides mobile auto glass services, including repair and replacement. Owners Joe and Victoria are well known among customers for fast, reliable service and competitive pricing for vehicles of all sizes, including transports, tractors and heavy equipment.

Stone Manor Studios  received the New Business Award. Now in its third year in the village of Newboro, the studio offers art workshops, retreats and cultural experiences. Owner Kim Lulashnyk focuses on artistic instruction and fostering a creative community environment.

Presentations by Michael Barrett, MP, were a highlight of the awards event held at the Elgin Lions Hall. The committee also recognized all nominees and thanked those who submitted nominations.

New this year, 22 long-standing businesses were honoured, marking between 20 and more than 150 years in operation. Mayor Arie Hoogenboom said council is proud to acknowledge the contributions of local business owners and thanked corporate sponsors for supporting the program.

Sponsors of this year’s program include G. Tackaberry & Sons Construction Ltd., KPMG MSLP, RBC Royal Bank of Canada and Wills Transfer Ltd.

Now in its 10th year, the Rideau Lakes Business Recognition Program, established by the economic development committee, continues to grow. The township is home to more than 470 locally owned businesses and encourages residents and visitors to support local establishments.
