Conversation and Coffee gives residents and prospective candidates a chance to connect

RIDEAU LAKES — Voters across Rideau Lakes are invited to an informal gathering in Elgin on April 11 aimed at encouraging conversation ahead of the 2026 municipal election.

Rideau Lakes Grassroots Group is hosting “Conversation and Coffee” from 10 a.m. to noon at the Elgin Community Hall, 47 Main St.

Spokesperson Wendy Alford said  the goal is to bring residents together from across all wards to share ideas, connect with one another and begin thinking about the upcoming election, which is now just over 200 days away – Oct. 26.

The event is designed as an open, informal space with no scheduled speakers or political presentations. Instead, attendees are encouraged to have conversations about issues that matter to them and the future direction of the township.

Alford said she also hopes the session will appeal to prospective candidates who may be considering running for council and want to hear directly from residents or explore community priorities.

Former councillors will be present to help newcomers navigate the process, she said.

The gathering is being promoted through social media, word of mouth and community outreach across the township.

Light refreshments will be available. No registration is required.
