18 candidates have filed for 8 ward council seats
Five candidates have entered the race to become the next mayor of Rideau Lakes.
Paula Banks, Kimberly Brown, John Fenik, Steve Weir and Ronald Young have filed nomination papers for the position.
A new mayor will be elected, as incumbent Mayor Arie Hoogenboom is not among the candidates listed by the township.
Banks is a current Ward 1 councillor. The remaining four mayoral candidates are not members of the current council.
The largest council race is in Ward 1, Bastard and South Burgess, where seven candidates are seeking two seats. They are Norman Burns, Mary J. Daniel, Joan Delaney, incumbent Coun. Sue Dunfield, Brad Gibson, Brian Preston and Barb Shea.
Delaney represented Ward 3 from 2022 until her resignation in 2025.
Four candidates are running in Ward 2, South Elmsley: Kate Ferguson, Tom Kohler, incumbent Coun. Marcia Maxwell and John McCormack. Current Ward 2 Coun. Jeff Banks is not among the candidates.
Ward 3, South Crosby, also has four candidates seeking two seats. They are incumbent Coun. Dustin Bulloch, incumbent Coun. Linda Carr, Ken Davies and Jordan De Long.
In Ward 4, North Crosby-Newboro, Adam Ball, Clarence Donnelly, Bob Lavoie and David Wickenden are seeking two seats. Neither of the current Ward 4 councillors, Deborah Anne Hutchings and Ron Pollard, is listed as a candidate. Lavoie, a former councillor, narrowly missed returning to council in 2022, finishing nine votes behind Ron Pollard for the ward’s second seat.
The list remains unofficial until the township clerk examines and certifies the nominations. Certification is expected by 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24.
Voting day is Monday, Oct. 26.
