SFPS report collision and hospital arrest in busy week

Pedestrian taken to hospital as precaution after collision

On January 13th 2025, Smiths Falls Police responded to the Elmsley St south area for a collision involving a pedestrian. Members arrived on scene with Lanark County Paramedics and the Smiths Falls Fire Department.

The road way was closed briefly while emergency services investigated. Lanark County Paramedics transported the pedestrian to the hospital as a precaution.

Investigation is ongoing.

Arrest at Smiths Falls hospital

Smiths Falls Police received a 9-1-1 call just after 6:00 p.m. on January 15th 2025. Members were responding to a report of an aggressive suspect in the emergency department of the Smiths Falls hospital.

As the investigation commenced, it was learned that the suspect assaulted hospital staff as well as caused damage to hospital property. 28 year old Rebecca MCNAUGHTON of Ottawa was arrested on scene. The accused stands charged with assault (x 1), mischief under $5000 (x 1) and failing to comply with their probation order (x 1).

The accused was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

The charges in these matters have not been proven in court.
