SFPS proactive foot patrol leads to arrest – Charges laid in theft and assault investigations

Breach Investigation Results in Arrest

On March 18th, 2025, the Smiths Falls Police Service received information regarding a possible breach of bail conditions. The responding members attended a residential area and located the suspect.

As a result of the investigation, 35-year-old Breige LAMING of Smiths Falls was arrested without incident. The accused is charged with failing to comply with their undertaking (x 1). The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Youth Charged in Theft Investigation

On March 13th and 19th, 2025, the Smiths Falls Police Service began investigating two separate reports of thefts. One theft occurred inside a restaurant, and the other at the Smiths Falls Community Arena. The investigating officer was able to confirm the identity of the suspect through security camera footage.

As a result of the investigation, a 14-year-old youth from Montague stands charged with theft under $5000 (x 2). The accused was held pending a bail hearing.

Intimate Partner Violence Investigation Leads to Charges

On March 20th, 2025, the Smiths Falls Police Service received information of an assault that had just occurred inside a dwelling. Members of the Smiths Falls Police responded to the residence to begin their investigation.

As a result of the investigation, a 50-year-old female from Smiths Falls was arrested at the scene without further incident. The accused stands charged with assault (x 2). The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

One Arrested on a Warrant

On March 21st, 2025, the Smiths Falls Police Service, with the assistance of the Kingston Police Service, were able to arrest a wanted female on an outstanding bench warrant.

32-year-old Cassandra MEILLEUR was arrested without incident. The warrant was for failing to appear in court on outstanding charges, including break and enter a dwelling (x 1), trespassing at night (x 2), and failing to comply with their bail release order (x 2). The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Proactive Foot Patrol Results in Arrest

On March 23rd, 2025, members of the Smiths Falls Police were conducting a proactive foot patrol of the pedestrian subway that links Victoria Avenue to Lanark Street. The patrol led to the officer locating a male known to police with a court-imposed curfew. The subject was arrested at the scene.

As a result of the investigation, 44-year-old James MORRIS of Smiths Falls is charged with carrying a concealed weapon (x 1), possession of a prohibited device (x 1), causing a disturbance (x 1), resisting a peace officer (x 1), and failing to comply with their bail release order (x 1). The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
