Investigation leads to discovery of blasting caps in Smiths Falls home

SFPS, fire and OPP units work together to safely remove explosive devices in Smiths Falls

On Oct. 9, 2025 Smiths Falls Police Service received information of possible explosive devices being stored inside a residence. Members of the Smiths Falls Police responded to the residence to commence the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, SFPS located blasting caps designed for use with dynamite inside the residence. Out of precaution, OPP EDU (Explosive Disposal Unit) and Smiths Falls Fire were called to assist with the proper disposal of the devices. The OPP EDU successfully removed the devices from the residence without incident.

The charges in these matters have not been proven in court.
