Shoplifting and dangerous driving incidents lead to arrests by Smiths Falls Police

Arrest made in shoplifting investigation

On December 27th 2024, at approximately 12:30 p.m. the Smiths Falls Police Service was informed of a shoplifting incident that just took place. An investigation was commenced and the suspect was quickly identified.

On January 10th 2025, members of the Smiths Falls Police successfully located and arrested 34 year old, Justin LLOYD of Perth. The accused has been charged for theft under $5000 (x 1) and fail to comply with their probation order (x 1).

The accused was released from custody with conditions. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth at a later date.

Traffic complaint lead to apprehension

On January 12th 2025, Smiths Falls Police received a report of a vehicle driving dangerously in a residential area. Police received another report advising that the vehicle driver was in a state of crisis and deemed at risk.

Members of the Smiths Falls Police with the assistance of Lanark County OPP made extensive patrols in order to locate the subject and vehicle.

Just after midnight, SFPS located the vehicle in town. Multiple attempts to pull the vehicle over were made. The vehicle then successfully stopped and the driver was apprehended under the mental health act. Provincial charges were laid, including charges for careless driving (x 1) and fail to stop for police (x1).
