Residents are invited to walk, run and cycle as part of the Silver Chain Challenge throughout June

Residents across Lanark County and Renfrew County are once again being encouraged to lace up their sneakers, hop on their bikes and get moving as the Silver Chain Challenge returns for June 2026.

The month-long challenge promotes healthy living, active transportation and community engagement by encouraging participants to walk, run or cycle throughout June while tracking the kilometres they travel. Organizers say the challenge is designed to get people outdoors exploring trails, communities and scenic backroads across eastern Ontario.

Participants can log their kilometres online and follow real-time standings throughout the month as the two counties compete for top spot and year-long bragging rights.

“The Silver Chain Challenge is a wonderful way for residents to stay active while discovering more of what makes Renfrew County such a great place to live,” said Renfrew County Warden Jennifer Murphy. “Whether you’re walking a local trail, cycling with family, or logging kilometres with friends, every step contributes to healthier lifestyles and a stronger sense of community. I encourage everyone to take part and show their County spirit this June.”

Lanark County Warden Richard Kidd said the event continues to highlight the benefits of active transportation and outdoor recreation.

“The Silver Chain Challenge is a powerful reminder that when we move together, we grow stronger together,” Kidd said. “Every step, stride, and ride helps build healthier people, a cleaner environment, and a more connected community across our counties.”

The challenge, which has become an annual tradition between the neighbouring counties, invites people of all ages and activity levels to participate. Organizers say every kilometre counts, whether participants are seasoned cyclists, regular runners or families out for an evening walk.

Participants are also encouraged to share photos from their adventures on social media using the hashtags #RenfrewCounty, #LanarkCounty and #SilverChainChallenge.

The challenge is open to residents and visitors alike throughout the month of June.

More information, including how to register and log kilometres, is available through Lanark County’s Silver Chain Challenge page.
