SMITHS FALLS — Police are investigating two separate incidents that occurred hours apart on March 26, including an armed robbery at a Union Street gas station and a break-in at a downtown pawn shop.
According to the Smiths Falls Police Service’s communication officer, Brett Lacey, officers were called to the gas station at 8:45 p.m. after receiving a 9-1-1 report of a robbery in progress.
Police say a lone female suspect entered the business while it was open and was armed with what appeared to be a handgun. Cash was taken, though the total amount has not yet been confirmed by the owner.
The suspect remains outstanding, and police have not released a description.
Earlier that day, officers responded to a reported break-in at a pawn shop on Beckwith Street North at 5:47 a.m.
Police say at least one suspect smashed the glass window of a door to gain entry and forced their way inside. A full inventory of stolen property is still being compiled.
Both investigations remain ongoing.
Police say the armed robbery is not believed to be connected to a separate convenience store break-and-enter reported on March 21.
