Bears take down Lumber Kings in tight 2–1 victory

Smiths Falls Bears stay atop the Robinson Division with Friday night win

SMITHS FALLS — Friday night saw a tightly fought match between the Bears and the Pembroke Lumber Kings at the Den.

The Lumber Kings struck first, with Chris Neil opening the scoring at 5:40 of the first period. Smiths Falls answered late in the frame when Carter Beauchesne, assisted by Caeden Heins, evened things up at 17:47.

The honour of putting the Bears ahead belonged to Gus Rabe, who gave Smiths Falls the lead at 8:44 of the third period. He was set up by Peyton Veltkamp and Tyson Parker.

Smiths Falls closed out the night with a 2–1 win over Pembroke. The Bears recorded 31 shots on goal compared to 28 from the Lumber Kings.

Rabe earned first star honours, Bears goaltender Ayo Ogini claimed second star, and Pembroke’s netminder Logan Heide took third.

With the win, the Bears remain atop the Robinson Division with 26 points, holding third place overall—nine points back of Ottawa.
