Smiths Falls Bears score twice early to secure 2-1 victory in semi-final play
SMITHS FALLS — The Smiths Falls Bears picked up a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Ottawa Junior Senators on Tuesday night to take a 3-0 lead in their Bogart Cup semifinal series.
Smiths Falls wasted no time, scoring both of their goals in the first period.
Dean Carvallo opened the scoring at 2:58, assisted by Jackson Heron and D.J. Ott. Luka Benoit added another late in the period at 19:41, with assists from Jacob Smith and Davis Hails.
The Bears carried the play through the second period but were unable to add to their lead.
Ottawa got on the board in the third period, with Eric Kane scoring at 11:32.
Smiths Falls held on the rest of the way to secure the 2-1 victory.
Benoit was named first star, Carvallo earned second star honours, and Kane received third star for Ottawa.
The Bears outshot the Junior Senators 33-21.
