Smiths Falls Bears earn key home win to stay second in the Robinson Division

SMITHS FALLS — The den had a festive feel Friday as the Smiths Falls Bears took on the Navan Grads. Observant spectators noticed a few new faces on the ice, as the team recently acquired Carter Green and goalie Brett Ruddy in a trade with the Hawkesbury Hawks.

Navan struck quickly, with Vincent Latreille scoring just 45 seconds into the game. Once the Bears recovered, they turned the momentum in their favour and held it for the remainder of the contest. Jonathan Dudziak evened the score at 5:44, assisted by Gus Rabe and Peyton Veltkamp.

The game-winning goal came from Carter Beauchesne, who nudged his puck into the net just twelve seconds into the second period. Tyson Parker and Jackson Heron earned the assists.

The Bears added an insurance goal in the third period when Gus Rabe scored at 1:57, assisted by Peyton Veltkamp and Jonathan Dudziak, bringing the final score to a 3–1 win for Smiths Falls.

While Navan outshot the Bears 30–25, new goalie Brett Ruddy held off the onslaught to secure the victory.

First star honours went to Gus Rabe for a goal and an assist, second star was awarded to teammate Jonathan Dudziak for a matching goal and assist, and third star went to Navan’s Vincent Latreille for his early goal.

With the win, the Bears sit at 31 points in second place in the Robinson Division, two points behind Kemptville, and hold fourth place overall in the league standings.
