Series shifts back to home with Smiths Falls Bears facing must-win game
SMITHS FALLS — The Smiths Falls Bears dropped two games to the Rockland Nationals in the Bogart Cup final.
After a 3-1 loss Thursday, April 16 in Rockland, the Bears returned home Friday night in front of more than 1,100 fans but fell 4-3 in overtime.
Smiths Falls opened the scoring early, with Jacob Smith netting an unassisted goal at 4:00 of the first period. Rockland responded with three goals in the period, from Justin Garneau at 6:59, Gabriel Le Houillier at 10:16, and Alex Kelloway on the power play at 12:25.
The Bears answered in the second period.
Carter Beauchesne scored on the power play at 1:06, and Dean Carvallo tied the game at 19:26.
Neither team scored in the third period, sending the game to overtime. Vital Dinis scored the winner for Rockland at 3:34.
Dinis was named first star, Smith earned second star honours, and Garneau received third star.
The series continued Monday, where the Bears again came up short in a 4-3 loss.
Beauchesne, Smith and D.J. Ott scored for Smiths Falls, while Le Houillier led Rockland with four goals.
The Bears now face a must-win game Wednesday to remain in the series.
Game 4 is scheduled for April 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Smiths Falls Memorial Centre.
