Smiths Falls Bears move up in Robinson Division after wins over Nepean Raiders and Cornwall Colts

SMITHS FALLS — The Smiths Falls Bears capped a perfect weekend with a commanding 7–2 win over the Cornwall Colts on Sunday, Oct. 19, following a 5–3 victory over the Nepean Raiders two nights earlier. Both games were played before home crowds at the Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre.

On Sunday, the Bears stormed out to an early lead and never looked back. Caeden Heins opened the scoring midway through the first period, with goals from Peyton Veltkamp, Carter Beauchesne, Lucas Cameron, Travis Ouellette, Jonathan Dudziak, and Andrea Blais rounding out the onslaught. Smiths Falls potted five unanswered goals in the second frame to put the game out of reach.

Cornwall’s Luc Beliveau and Houston Johnson managed single tallies, but Bears goaltender Ayo Ogini stood tall, turning aside 20 of 22 shots for the win. Dudziak earned first-star honours with a goal and an assist, while Beauchesne and Beliveau rounded out the three stars.

Friday night’s 5-3 win over Nepean saw the Bears build momentum early, powered by Veltkamp’s opening goal just over two minutes in. D.J. Ott, Blais, Travis Ouellette, and Kade Hockenhull added markers, while Ogini faced 38 shots, stopping 35 for his second strong outing of the weekend.

With back-to-back victories, the Bears hold onto second place in the Robinson Division standings, on six wins, four losses and an overtime loss for 13 points. They’re two back of Kemptville at 15 points.

The Bears are back in action Friday, Oct. 24, when they host the Navan Grads at 7:30 p.m. at the Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre. Navan is second in the Yzerman Division with the same record as the Bears.
