15 candidates are running for 6 council seats as Shawn Pankow prepares to leave the mayor’s office
Three candidates are running for mayor of Smiths Falls, while 15 people are seeking the Town’s six council seats.
Nate Morris, Christopher G. Cummings and current Coun. Peter McKenna have filed nomination papers for mayor.
Mayor Shawn Pankow is not seeking a fourth term, meaning Smiths Falls will elect a new mayor for the 2026-30 term.
Four sitting councillors are seeking re-election: Jennifer Miller, Stephen Robinson, Dawn Quinn and Christopher McGuire.
They are joined in the council race by Greg Hull, Chance Peterson, Spring Loomes, Bill Dickson, Alex Brown, Peggy Lee Tye-Bernicky, Zachary Thoms, Marie-Pier Guerin, Lewis Koluk, James Creighton and Leslie Allison Richardson.
Current Coun. Jay Brennan is not among the candidates seeking election.
The candidate list remains unofficial. The clerk is expected to examine and certify the nominations by Monday, Aug. 24.
The municipal election will be held Oct. 26. Smiths Falls council consists of the mayor and six councillors.
