Smiths Falls gas station fire caused an estimated $350,000 in damage; no injuries were reported
SMITHS FALLS — A fire at Scott’s Corner Store at the MacEwen gas station on Beckwith Street in Smiths Falls early Thursday morning caused an estimated $350,000 in damage, according to fire Chief Rick Chesebrough.
The Smiths Falls Fire Department received the call at 6:02 a.m., with crews arriving on scene eight minutes later at 6:10 a.m. A total of 15 firefighters from Smiths Falls responded, along with 10 firefighters from Montague Township.
Chesebrough told Hometown News that the fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical issue. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters remained on scene until about 10 a.m. working to bring the situation under control and secure the site.
The extent of the damage has not been fully detailed, but the loss is estimated at approximately $350,000.
Bob Perreault from 92.3 WOW FM was on the scene early this morning and captured video of the blaze. Perreault reported that the owners had been undergoing renovations after a recent purchase of the business and were happy to become part of the community.
