Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre closure after sprinkler incident

Cleanup and repairs underway following Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre closure.

Smiths Falls – The Town of Smiths Falls has temporarily closed the Memorial Community Centre arena -including the concourse- following an unusual incident that occurred during play earlier this afternoon. During a regularly scheduled ice rental, a puck deflected off the crossbar of the net, striking the sprinkler system located in the ceiling high above the playing surface. The impact triggered the fire suppression system, resulting in water damage on the ice and in the facility; fortunately, no one was injured.

“The closure is required while our staff conduct cleanup and emergency repairs,” said Stephanie Clark, Director of Community Services. “Community Services staff are working as quickly as possible to clean up and repair the damage and will provide an update to the community once a reopening timeline is confirmed.”

The town thanks user groups and residents for their patience and understanding during this closure.
