Smiths Falls Police investigations lead to arrests for assault, theft, impaired driving and drug trafficking

Investigation leads to arrest

On November 26, 2025 Smiths Falls Police received information of a disturbance in the downtown core. Units responded to the area to investigate. One subject was taken into custody at the scene.

As a result of the investigation, SO year old Steven SAUNDERS of Smiths Falls stands charged with failing to comply with their probation order (x1). The accused was later released from custody with conditions and a scheduled court date.

Assault charges laid after student and staff member suffer minor injuries

On November 26, 2025 Smiths Falls Police received information of an assault that just took place at a local Smiths Falls School. Members of the Smiths Falls Police responded to the school to commence the investigation where one student and one staff member suffered minor injuries. One student was taken into custody without further incident.

As a result of the investigation, a 15 year old student stands charged with assault (x2). The accused was later released from custody with conditions and a scheduled court date.

Shoplifting incident leads to multiple charges

On November 30, 2025 Smiths Falls Police received information of shoplifting incident in progress at a local convenience store. Members responded to the scene to commence the investigation. The suspect was located and arrested.

As a result of the investigation, 33 year old Joseph LATIMER-CHANT stands charged with theft under $5000 (x1), possession of property obtained by crime (x1), causing a disturbance (x1) and obstructing peace officer (x1). The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date.

Wanted subject surrenders to Smiths Falls police

On December 1st, 2025 a wanted subjected attended Smiths Falls Police station to surrender themselves on an outstanding warrant. The warrant was issued after the subject’s bail conditions were revoked by the courts. The subject was also wanted from a November 28th, 2025 shoplift investigation.

As result, 33 year old James ALLEN stands charged with theft under $5000 (x1). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Traffic stop leads to arrest

On December 1st, 2025 a member of Smiths Falls Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. During the traffic investigation, one passenger was confirmed to be wanted on a warrant. The subject was arrested at the scene without incident.

19 year old Samantha COLLES of Smiths Falls stands charged with flight from peace officer (x1) and dangerous operation (x1). These charges were a result of a September 7th, 2025 investigation where the accused fled from a traffic stop. The accused was later released from custody with conditions and a scheduled court date.

Wanted Subject arrested

On December 2nd, 2025, a member of the Smiths Falls Police was on a proactive pratol of the downtown core. The officer observed a subject who is known to police to be on an outstanding bench warrant for failing to appear in court. The subject was arrested without incident.

As a result, 37 year old Cody LAMING of Smiths Falls was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Shoplift investigation leads to counterfeit money charge

On December 3rd, 2025 Smiths Falls Police received a call for a shoplifter currently inside a local business. Members of the Smiths Fal Is Police Service responded to the area to investigate. The suspect was located exiting the building and was arrested without further incident. The search of the suspect, incident to arrest resulted in six counterfeit $100 bills being seized.

As a result of the investigation, 33 year old Daniel WRIGHT of Smiths Falls stands charged with theft under $5000 (x1) and possessing counterfeit money (x1). The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date.

Shoplifter arrested

On December 2nd, 2025 Smiths Falls Police Service received information of active shoplifter inside a local business. Members of the Smiths Falls Police responded to the scene to commence the investigation. The suspect was located near by and arrested without incident.

As a result of the investigation, 44 year old Kirstyn JENSEN of Smiths Falls stands charged with theft under $5000 (x1). The accused was also wanted from a previous October 24th, 2025 investigation where they stand charged with theft under $5000 (x1). The accused was later released from custody with conditions and a scheduled court date

Breach charges laid

On December 4th, 2025 a member of the Smiths Falls Police was on a proactive patrol when they observed a subject to be wanted on outstanding charges. The subject was arrested at the scene without incident.

As a result of the investigation, 48 year old Bryan MORDY of Smiths Falls stands charged with breach of recognizance (x2). These charges were from a December 3rd, 2025 investigation where the accused was observed breaching their court ordered conditions. The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date.

Harassment investigation leads to arrest

On December, 10th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police responded to a residence after receiving information of ongoing harassment. The suspect was located at the scene and subsequently arrested without incident.

As a result of the investigation a 45 year old male stands charged with criminal harassment (x3) and unlawfully in dwelling house (x1). The accused was later released from custody with conditions and a scheduled court date.

Assault charges laid after dispute over snow clearing

On December 12, 2025 Smiths Falls Police received information of a residential dispute where neighbours were arguing over the placement of snow in their driveways. Members of the Smiths Falls Police responded to the scene to investigate. Two subjects were arrested at the scene.

As a result of the investigation, 30 year old Angelina CRAIG of Smiths Falls stands charged with assault (x2) and mischief (x1). 51 year old Paul VIAU of Smiths Falls stands charged with assault (x1). The accused parties were later released from custody with conditions and a scheduled court date.

Traffic stop leads to impaired and drug trafficking charges

On December 11th, 2025 a member of the Smiths Falls Police conducted a traffic stop on Lombard street. As the traffic investigation continued, the driver showed signs of impairment and was found to be in possession of fraudulent identification, and suspected drugs. The driver was arrested at the scene.

As a result of the investigation, 30 year old Manedeke ABDI of Ottawa stands charged with operation while impaired (x1) operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg (x1), possession of an identity document (x2), possession of schedule I substance for purpose of trafficking (x1), permitting escape (x1), possession of property obtained by crime (x1) and multiple provincial offences. The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.
