SFPS make multiple arrests; Shoplifting, IPV and probation violations lead to charges

Smiths Falls Police apprehend several wanted suspects during proactive patrols and ongoing investigations

Shoplifter arrested

On October 20th, 2025 members of the Smiths Falls Police were on proactive patrol and located a wanted suspect. The suspect was arrested by police without incident.

As a result of the investigation, 56 year old Dennis WHAN stands charged with theft under $5000 (x1) and failing to comply with their probation order (x1). These charges were from an August 2025 shoplifting investigation at a local department store. The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date.

Disturbance in residence leads to arrest

On October 23rd, 2025 Smiths Falls Police received information of a disturbance at a residence, where an unwanted suspect was refusing to leave. Members of the Smiths Falls Police responded to the scene to commence the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, 37 year old Cody LAMING of Smiths Falls was arrested and charged with failing to comply with their probation order (x2). The accused was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date.

Wanted male surrenders to police

On October 10th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police commenced an intimate partner violence investigation after receiving information of ongoing harassment. On October 26th 2025, the suspect in the investigation surrendered themselves to police without incident.

As a result of the investigation, a 58 year old male from Ottawa stands charged with criminal harassment (x1). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Arrest made in IPV Investigation

On October 27th, 2025 Smiths Falls Police Service commenced an intimate partner violence investigation in relation to ongoing harassment. On November 5th, 2025 the suspect of the investigation surrendered themselves to police without incident.

As a result of the investigation, a 35 year old female from Smiths Falls stands charged with harassing communications (x1), criminal harassment (x1) and failing to comply with their undertaking (x1). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Wanted male located and arrested

On November 6th 2025, Smiths Falls Police Service with the assistance of OPP Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad arrested a wanted suspect in the Ottawa area. The suspect was wanted from a September 11th investigation where the suspect removed a court ordered GPS monitoring device and was deemed unlawfully at large.

As a result of the investigation, 40 year old Derek THOMSON of Smiths Falls stands charged with mischief under $5000 (x1), unlawfully at large (x1) and failing to comply with their probation order (x2). The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.

Wanted female surrenders to police

On November 6th 2025, Smiths Falls Police arrested a 36 year old female from Smiths Falls. The accused was wanted on a court issued Bench Warrant for failing to appear in court on outstanding charges. The charges originate from an intimate partner violence investigation on August 7th, 2025. The accused was later released from custody with a new scheduled court date.

The charges in these matters have not been proven in court.
