Arrest made following intimate partner violence investigation
On June 22, 2026, the Smiths Falls Police Service responded to a report of an intimate partner violence incident and launched an investigation.
As a result of the investigation, the suspect surrendered to police without incident and was taken into custody. A 40-year-old Smiths Falls resident was charged with one count of mischief. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Arrest made in assault investigation
On June 29, 2026, the Smiths Falls Police Service responded to a report of an assault at a residential building. Officers arrived and launched an investigation. The suspect was identified and arrested at the scene without incident.
As a result of the investigation, Joshua McNeil, 40, of Smiths Falls, was charged with one count of assault. The accused was later released from custody on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
One arrested after Smiths Falls police respond to residential disturbance
On July 1, 2026, the Smiths Falls Police Service received a 911 call reporting a disturbance outside a residence. Officers attended the scene and launched an investigation. During the investigation, police determined one individual was in breach of court-imposed bail conditions and took the individual into custody without incident.
As a result of the investigation, Britlee Watts, 24, of Smiths Falls, was charged with one count of failing to comply with a release order. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Charge laid in harassment investigation
On July 2, 2026, the Smiths Falls Police Service received a 911 call reporting a disturbance inside a group home, where a staff member feared for their safety. Officers attended the residence and launched an investigation. One person was taken into custody at the scene without incident.
As a result of the investigation, a 63-year-old Smiths Falls man was charged with one count of criminal harassment — threatening conduct. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Youth charged following weapons investigation
On July 3, 2026, the Smiths Falls Police Service received a 911 call reporting an individual armed with a handgun was making threats at a residence.
Officers responded immediately and learned the suspect had fled the scene and returned to a residence in Rideau Lakes. With assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police Leeds County Detachment, Smiths Falls police attended the residence to locate the suspect.
When officers arrived, the suspect fled through a bedroom window in an attempt to evade arrest. Following a brief foot pursuit, officers took the individual into custody without incident. Police also seized a replica BB handgun.
As a result of the investigation, a 16-year-old youth was charged with:
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Using a firearm while committing an offence
- Criminal harassment — threatening conduct
- Failing to comply with a probation order
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing. As the accused is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, no further identifying information will be released.
Charge laid following sexual assault investigation
On June 27, 2026, the Smiths Falls Police Service received information regarding an alleged sexual assault. Members of the Smiths Falls Police Service Crime Unit launched an investigation.
As a result of the investigation, officers arrested a suspect on July 6, 2026. A 33-year-old Smiths Falls resident was charged with one count of sexual assault. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
IPV investigation leads to drug charges
On July 7, 2026, the Smiths Falls Police Service received multiple 911 calls reporting an intimate partner violence incident in progress. Officers responded immediately and located an active disturbance. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Following the arrest, officers conducted a search incidental to arrest and seized a quantity of drugs believed to be controlled substances under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old Smiths Falls resident was charged with:
- Assault
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (seven counts)
- Failing to comply with a probation order (four counts)
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Motor vehicle collision results in arrest
On July 7, 2026, the Smiths Falls Police Service received a report of a motor vehicle collision at Beckwith Street and Elmsley Street.
Officers attended the scene and launched an investigation. During the investigation, police determined one of the drivers was in breach of court-ordered probation conditions. Officers also located a large knife beneath the driver’s seat, contrary to the accused’s no-weapons condition. The driver was arrested without incident.
As a result of the investigation, Kale Love, 37, of Smiths Falls, was charged with:
- Failing to comply with a probation order (two counts)
Police also laid an additional charge under the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Resisting arrest charge laid
On July 9, 2026, the Smiths Falls Police Service received a report of an unwanted person refusing to leave a residence.
Officers attended the scene and launched an investigation. During the investigation, police determined the individual was in breach of court-ordered probation conditions and a release order. The suspect was taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation, Zoe Hamill, 33, of Ottawa, was charged with:
- Resisting a peace officer
- Failing to comply with a release order
- Failing to comply with a probation order (two counts)
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
The charges in these matters have not been proven in court.
