Late-afternoon blaze draws 27 firefighters as the Smiths Falls stove fire damages home
SMITHS FALLS — A late-afternoon kitchen fire caused an estimated $300,000 in damage at a home on Elmsley Street in Smiths Falls on Thursday, April 23, according to fire Chief Rick Chesebrough.
Firefighters were called to 30 Elmsley St. Smiths Falls at 5:11 p.m., with 21 Smiths Falls firefighters responding alongside six from Montague Township.


Crews remained on scene for about four hours as they brought the fire under control.
“We were called at 5:11 p.m. and had 21 firefighters from Smiths Falls and six from Montague respond,” Chesebrough said.
The fire is believed to have started on the kitchen stove. No injuries to residents, pets or firefighters were reported.
Support efforts are already underway, with a neighbour organizing a GoFundMe campaign to assist the Bennett Moore family in the aftermath of the fire.
