Local plant sale supports food security efforts in South Lanark

LANARK — The South Lanark Community Garden is continuing its annual tradition with a spring plant sale aimed at supporting local food security initiatives.

The fundraiser will feature locally grown vegetable seedlings propagated by garden volunteers, donated perennials and, new this year, hanging flower baskets. The sale takes place Saturdays, May 16, 23 and 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the garden, located at 2208 Highway 511 between Balderson and Lanark Village.

The annual sale is a key fundraiser for the non-profit organization, which relies on community support to sustain operations. Each year, volunteers and seasonal youth staff work together to grow tens of thousands of pounds of fresh, organically grown produce.

Produce from the garden is shared among volunteers, local food programs including the Lanark Food Pantry, and households experiencing food insecurity.

More information about the garden, volunteer opportunities and the organization’s work can be found at South Lanark Community Garden.
