Enjoy an award-winning experience in Rideau Lakes with a side of innovation at Stoodley’s Kitchen & Beverage

ELGIN — Stoodley’s Kitchen & Beverage has gone from takeout startup to award-winning community hub in just two years, earning recognition as Rideau Lakes’ Business of the Year while keeping its family roots front and centre.

“It’s a labour of love for the whole family,” says lead cook Kody White, one of four members of the White family behind the business.

The restaurant began in early spring 2024 with takeout service to generate revenue while renovations were still underway. “We were surprised it got so busy so quickly,” Kody recalls. By fall, in-house dining was open.

Today, Stoodley’s is more than a restaurant. “It’s a welcoming hub where people can sit and unwind,” says Robb White, who runs the business with his wife, Chris White, and their children. Guests are greeted by daughter Jessie-Leigh White or patio staff, with heaters extending the outdoor season well into spring and fall. “One of our goals was to establish the restaurant as a community mainstay offering a unique experience,” adds Kody.

The family shares updates on social media, posting menu specials and events such as karaoke nights and live music. From Elgin Days to impromptu celebrations, the message is clear: everyone belongs.

The menu reflects that ethos. Burgers are made from fresh ground chuck with slow-cooked caramelized onions. Flatbreads and handhelds are favourites, with many ingredients sourced locally. “We take pride in every plate,” says Kody.

Pizza is crafted with house-made dough and sauce, while items like Nanny’s Garden pizza and Papa’s Chicken sandwich pay tribute to grandparents. The beverage list offers classics and microbrew pairings.

A new outdoor kitchen now supports the patio, and the Stoodley’s Scoop Shack ice cream shop has opened. “Staff are ecstatic to be scooping all summer long,” says Kody.

Roles are shared among the family. “Brother Kody manages the back of house, Jessie-Leigh runs the front, and Chris and I step in wherever needed,” says Robb. Kody credits his parents for keeping everything on track: “Mom and dad are the backbones of this operation.”

The business name honours Chris’ mother, Simone Stoodley. “There will always be a piece of her in this place,” the family says.

Stoodley’s has already been recognized with Rideau Lakes’ New Business of the Year and Business of the Year awards. Robb attributes that success to the team. “We are fortunate to have 14 staff who bring forward ideas for improvements. They’ve become extended members of the Stoodley’s family.”
