Public invited to review Tay Basin design concepts April 10
PERTH — The Town of Perth is inviting residents to view conceptual designs for the Tay Basin at a public exhibition on Friday, April 10.
The designs were developed by students from the University of Toronto’s John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design as part of a partnership with the Town. The concepts explore how the Tay Basin could function as a more flexible, accessible and community-focused public space.
The competition is being coordinated locally by architect Adam Mackenzie Smith, with the Town participating as a community partner.
“These ideas offer a unique opportunity to explore what the Tay Basin could become,” said Cathy McNally, director of community services. “While the designs are conceptual, they help spark important conversations about how we use and experience public spaces in Perth.”
The proposals consider factors such as community events, pedestrian movement, accessibility, tourism and the integration of existing features, including the Crystal Palace and the Rideau Trail.
Town officials note the designs are exploratory and do not commit the municipality to implementation or funding.
Residents are encouraged to attend the Tay Basin Landscape Ideas Competition showcase to view the submissions and provide feedback.
The event will take place at the Crystal Palace, 31 Basin Lane, from 7 to 9 p.m.
