Town Hall establishes temporary new entrance on Church St

During Monday night’s Committee of the Whole meeting in Smiths Falls, Director of Utilities and Public Works Paul McMunn shared a brief update with council and town staff about the ongoing town hall renovation.

Due to Phase 2 of the Beckwith St Reconstruction project and the town hall renovation, the main entrance for reception at town hall has been temporarily relocated to the building’s entrance on Church Street (near the Fire Station). The town’s mail dropbox has also been moved to the exterior of the Church St entrance, and access to the Visitor’s Centre has been relocated to this point as well. There are signs around the building directing town hall visitors to the appropriate entrance.

McMunn expects this temporary solution to be in place until the fall.

“Some inconvenience for some long term accessibility, that’s great,” commented Councilor Chris McGuire, who chaired the Committee of the Whole meeting.

The town hall renovation will see fresh new wheelchair-accessible council chambers, washrooms, and common space installed on the upper floor of the town hall.
