Quebec men charged in connection with utility trailer thefts at Smiths Falls Youth Arena

Two males from Quebec are facing Criminal Code charges in relation to two thefts of utility trailers from the Youth Community Arena.

On October 27th 2024, at approximately 7:00am members of Smiths Falls Police Service were called out the Smiths Falls Youth Arena to investigate a theft of utility trailer that occurred sometime overnight. The incident was captured on CCTV.

On October 28th 2024 Smiths Falls Police members were called back to the same location as a second utility trailer was stolen sometime overnight. Further investigation into these two incidents led to the identification of the two suspects.

As a result of the investigation Shane Riopelle , age 43 of Gatineau, QC, was charged with two counts of theft over $5000 and two counts on conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. William Goodwin, age 66 of Cantley, QC was also charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

Smiths Falls Police with the assistance of the OPP Kemptville units located and arrested the accused parties. The two males had to appear in bail court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth and have been released on a release order with conditions.

The charges in these matters have not been proven in court.
