ALMONTE — A new indoor pickleball facility has opened in Almonte, becoming one of the first purpose-built spaces serving the Almonte-Kanata corridor as demand for the sport continues to grow across Ottawa and Eastern Ontario.

The Westside Pickleball Club, located at 340 Frank Davis Street, offers year-round indoor play along with organized programming, leagues and recreational opportunities for a range of skill levels.

The opening comes amid a surge in pickleball’s popularity. In Ottawa, the number of courts has expanded significantly in recent years, with participation increasing across multiple age groups.

“Pickleball is more than just a game – it’s a community,” said founder Sara West. “What starts as a fun way to stay active quickly becomes something people are passionate about.”

While much of the sport’s early growth in Ottawa was concentrated in the east end, including Orléans, players in communities such as Kanata, Stittsville, Carleton Place and Lanark County have had fewer indoor options, particularly during the winter months.

The Almonte facility is intended to help address that gap by providing indoor court access and structured play opportunities throughout the year.

Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis, and is widely considered accessible due to its low-impact nature and ease of learning.

With interest continuing to rise, indoor facilities are becoming an increasingly important part of supporting year-round participation in colder climates.

An opening tournament is also being planned, with more details expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
